Yorkshire has a wide variety of attractions with quaint villages, vast countryside and an amazing coastline. For a keen cyclist there are a huge variety of opportunities for fantastic training rides. There are picturesque country lanes and single track rides across the region as well as purpose made tracks and national cycle-ways with endless opportunities throughout the Dales.
Phil's hometown, York, is steeped in history and charm. There are some fantastic bars and restaurants for when Phil is taking a break from training and the famous York Minster, the largest cathedral in Northern Europe, and the "most picturesque street in Britain", the Shambles, provide stunning backdrops to help him relax after a tough season racing.
As a city of festivals, York boasts a year-round calendar of Viking, Roman, Christmas, music, antique and comedy activities, so there's always plenty to do all year round. York is also proud to have recently been awarded Cycling City status from Cycling England, running until the year 2011, in a bid to get more people - particularly children and older adults - cycling. York's wider region is also easy to explore on two wheels - an ideal base from which to discover nearby historic houses and gardens and English Heritage and National Trust properties.
Training rides to be uploaded soon.
